Visit the Caves
Underneath the mysterious Forest of Dean lies a hidden world, spectacular and unseen, a vast natural cave system that has been mined for thousands of years.
The Caves are self-guided — no need for a hard hat — explore winding passages and 10 unique caverns. Learn about over 4,500 years of fascinating mining history, where generations dug for valuable ochre pigment and iron ore. Experience being 100ft below the Forest of Dean…
Above ground, there is plenty of free parking for visitors. A unique gift shop. Our Lamproom Café with organic coffee, lovely cakes and light lunches for hungry adventurers to fuel up.
During Easter half Term, we have a fun Egg Hunt, can you spot them all? Will you win Easter goodies from our shop in our prize draw? Competition free with entry.

This Easter Half Term 2026
28th March – 12th April
Hop underground this Easter to join the adventure! Explore the magical depths of the Caves and spot the woodland birds’ nests tucked away in the rock. Count the eggs for the chance to win egg-celent goodies from our gift shop in our Easter prize draw!
The egg hunt is included with your usual ‘Cave Entry’ during 28th March to 12th April, and the Caves are open as normal over Easter for all visitors to enjoy.
Deep Level Caving
Dare to Adventure Deeper?
Caving is a physical challenge; you get a bit dirty, but it’s great fun!
Go scrambling, ducking, crawling far beyond the areas open to the public, to discover incredible caverns often last mined centuries ago.
You are led by a highly skilled and experienced guide, in small groups of up to 12 people. Allow around three hours (including kitting up). Please allow more time if you would like to visit the Gift Shop or Lamproom Café afterwards.
Suitable for ages 7+ (under 18s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian).
These trips are only run occasionally, depending on guide availability. For more details about our caving trips see our Adventure Deeper page.
