Christmas at Clearwell Caves 2024 – The Very Hungry Polar Bear
“A truly magical Christmas outing for all the family!”
Follow the adventures of Bernard, a young boy who finds a baby polar bear floating on an iceberg and decides to take it home…
Due to high demand, we’ve added more tickets and an additional session at 5.00pm.
BEFORE Christmas: See Father Christmas (children 2-12 receive a gift), then join Bernard in ‘the land where snow covers the ground for most of the year.’ Midway through the Caves, explore Christmas stalls filled with gifts and decorations, and visit our Underground Café for hot drinks and delicious cakes, before the story resumes… The visit takes most people around 1.5 hours to complete.
Ample free onsite parking.

AFTER Christmas: Tickets to see our magical story displays without Father Christmas, a gift, the Christmas stalls or Underground Café. On the surface, our gift shop will be operating as normal and the Lamproom Café will have a tasty range of drinks, snacks, delicious cakes, and a cosy real fire.
Ample free onsite parking is available.

Visit the Caves
Underneath the mysterious Forest of Dean lies a hidden world, spectacular and unseen, a vast natural cave system that has been mined for thousands of years.
The Caves are self-guided — no need for a hard hat — explore winding passages and 10 unique caverns. Learn about 4,500 years of mining history and experience the excitement of being 100ft below ground…
Above ground, there is plenty of free parking for visitors. Our Lamproom Café offers organic coffee, lovely cakes and light lunches for hungry adventurers to fuel up.
Open this Autumn 19th–20th October, 26th October – 3rd November. Open 10am – last entry 3.30pm. Monday – Sunday (closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays).

Deep Level Caving
Dare to Adventure Deeper?
Caving is a physical challenge; you get a bit dirty, but it’s great fun!
You will be walking, ducking, crawling and scrambling beyond the areas open to tourists to discover many incredible spaces the miners created, often hundreds of years ago.
Led by a highly skilled and experienced guide, you’ll be in small groups of up to 12 people, and the trip will take around three hours (including kitting up). Please allow more time if you would like to visit the Gift Shop or Lamproom Café afterwards.
Suitable for ages 7+ (under 18s must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian).
These trips are only run occasionally. For more details about our caving trips see our Adventure Deeper page.
